Nov. 5 Specialty Recycling & Pumpkin Composting

Take advantage of a joint composting and recycling event! Compost your pumpkin with the Glen Ellyn Park District's Pumpkin Smash, and bring specialty recycling items for recycling by Flat Can Recycling. This event is sponsored by the Glen Ellyn Park District and Glen Ellyn Environmental Commission. Please view the information and flyers below about accepted items, and the map with location/drop off information.

Free to compost: Pumpkins! Pumpkins should be unpainted and free of candles or any decor. If you have sprayed your pumpkin with bleach, WD-40, or other chemicals to keep critters away - please do not compost it.

Free to recycle: Polystyrene foam (#6 styrofoam) - including post-consumer foam cups and “to-go” containers, egg cartons, ice chests, rinsed meat trays, protective packaging foam (frequently used to protect electronics during shipping), and other foam with the #6 inside the chasing arrows triangle. Not accepted: Packing peanuts or other small pieces of styrofoam.
If you bring in styrofoam containers that were used to hold food (such as takeout containers), they must be thoroughly cleaned before you bring them in for recycling. Please see images/guidelines below.

Free to recycle: Textiles, including clothing, shoes, accessories, bedding, towels, toys, purses, and rags (in any condition).

Fees will apply for latex paint, car seats, household batteries, isobutane and propane tanks, and aerosol cans. The fees are to cover proper recycling of these hazardous materials - thank you for helping to keep them out of the landfill! Please check informational flyers below for full details on accepted items. Cash, card and Apple Pay are accepted for payment.
