Light Matters, Dark Skies - Monarchs and FIreflies at Night at Reserve 22. Join local experts to learn about Moon Meadows and use light to benefit your landscape. Afterwards, join us for a Dark Sky Walk.

Does light after dark matter? What do Monarchs (and other pollinators) do at night? Learn about Moon Meadows and use light to benefit your landscape. Afterwards, join us for a Dark Sky Walk at the nearby DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center (formerly Willowbrook Wildlife Center)

This dual program 'Light Matters, Dark Skies - Monarchs at Night' is part of Glen Ellyn's Summer of the Monarch. The night of 7/14 is a new moon so we may get some good stargazing. The night has two parts in two locations,

  1. Sip and Talk - This part of the program begins at 7:00pm at Reserve 22 at the Village Links golf course (485 Winchell Way off of Park). There will be free appetizers and a cash bar. We will hear from two speakers:

    • Dark Skies, Light Matters - hear from fan-favorite Adam Kreuzer as we learn to optimize nighttime lighting (for humans, plants, pollinators) and connect these ideas with previous summer topics including the idea of beautiful and pollinator-supportive Moon Meadows.

    • Village Links Audubon Certification - Village Links Golf Superintendent Andrew Cross will discuss the Link's achievement of Audubon certification, with strategies we can bring home for beautiful and healthy landscapes.

  2. Dark Sky Walk. After the talk, we will go to The DuPage Wildlife Conservation Center (formerly known as Willowbrook) at 525 S. Park at 8:45p. They are open especially for us to enjoy the park after dark-- and tonight we will have a new moon for extra celestial visibility. We will walk the paved trail, observe nighttime pollinators, fireflies and the stars!

Bring a flashlight and if you'd like, some tick and mosquito repellent. Please do not spray it in the park.

A summer series by Go Green Glen Ellyn. Connect with other local residents and like minded garden enthusiasts! Light appetizers will be provided; cash bar.
