Thank you for your participation in SportSwap #4 on July 23, 2023! Together, we have saved more than 1500 pieces of sporting equipment since 2022 by putting them back in circulation, preventing unnecessary new purchases and keeping them out of the landfill!

Our Spring 2023 SportSwap Equipment Exchange and Sale broke the record! See stats below.

2022: Great Job, GE! We all saved money and saved things from going to the landfill!

In April 2022, Go Green Glen Ellyn and the Glen Ellyn Park District held the first ever Sport Swap for residents to swap gently used sports equipment.  Most residents were able to walk out with free or very discounted items because of all the swapping! In addition, over $125 was raised for Friends of the Glen Ellyn Parks Scholarship Fund.  For the second SportSwap in July, you helped raise nearly $600 for the scholarship fund and we were able to donate to help needy children with the remainders from the swap. This is what we have collected, sold and swapped during the two SportSwaps:

Balls: 219

Bats: 40

Cleats: 93

Mitts: 27

Rackets: 14

Skates/blades: 15

Pads/shinguards: 28

Gear (includes sport bags): 6

Hockey sticks: 11

Lax stocks: 12

Golf clubs: 3 sets

Skateboard and scooter: 7

  • Leftover soccer balls, cleats and shin guards were donated to the Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center newly formed soccer program,

  • Leftover basketball, footballs, and baseballs were donated to a local PE program.

  • 35lbs of uniforms were rescued from the landfill and sent to a textile recycling program

  • We also rescued over 100 water bottles in the Ackerman Lost and Found from heading to the landfill.  Bottles in gently used condition were cleaned and resold or donated, while those that were a little worn out were separated for plastic, metal or glass recycling.
